Camelot Unchained is running a third round of its fast-leveling catch-up event, a Kickstarter-like campaign that rewards anyone who plays the game with a free level-up. Anyone who plays the game during the event period will get a free level-up when they reach level 10, and will get another free level-up when they reach level 15. This is a fee-free event, meaning that there are no additional fees to play or upgrade. In addition, the catch-up event also offers a special costume. This costume is only available during the event and will be retired after the event ends.
This is the third and final round of the Dark Age of Camelot’s fast-leveling catch-up event. I had some misgivings about this event: the first two were successfully completed, and each one added a handful of newbie jobs. I understand that you want to give players a way to catch up to those who were playing before you, but these events tend to be poorly designed and give players a false sense of security. I’m not sure you can ever design a catch-up event that is fair and doesn’t just encourage players to grind for a few months.
Dark Age of Camelot is a free to play, 3D MMORPG developed by the blind team of Camelot Unchained, a studio of fans all handpicked by the original developers of the Guild Wars franchise. Since its launch in 2015, the game has grown tremendously thanks to the work of the community, and the new “fast-leveling” event is a direct result of their hard work.
Broadsword’s legendary MMO Dark Age of Camelot hit gold earlier this year with its Catch Up in Caledonia event, which basically let players level faster through the game’s PvE to get to the game’s more popular three-way RvR endgame. The studio claimed the event attracted “thousands” of characters last spring, which was enough to warrant hosting it again in May — and again beginning next week.
“On Monday, August 30th, at 3 p.m. EST / 9 p.m. CET, the event will begin and conclude at the same time on Monday, September 6th. […] It’s a great method to have a new start and quickly advance to the end-game with people of similar skill levels! The 7-day event will take place completely in the Realm versus Realm battlefield zone of Caledonia. Players will begin at level 1 and work their way up to level 50, gaining gear, master levels, champion levels, and realm rankings along the way. Participants will be ready to participate in the Frontier by the conclusion of the event!”
Take a look at the patch notes since there are a few stipulations, and you’ll need to get in by September 3rd to avoid having new characters shut out. This round, the team has made a few adjustments to guarantee that one realm does not fall too far behind.

Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) is an MMO experience that has been around since 2003. It is free to play, but gets you far more out of your time spent in game than the pay-to-play model would. There are two ways to play DAoC. You can either play the catch-up game (Leveling your character to act as fast as possible to get the best gear for yourself) or you can play the game (Leveling your character to act as fast as possible to get the best gear for your account)..
